Choosy Blogs Choose GIFs: Compressed Videos From Friday’s Nailbiter vs. Broors
It all looks the same when it comes to the record, but Friday afternoon’s 1-0 win wasn’t very satisfying until the final shattered-bat bleeder made its way into Anthony Rizzo’s glove. Perhaps Rizzo and Kris Bryant brought a little too much of that mojo with them to the Blackhawks game later. At least they brought the right result too, though.
The most encouraging part of the Cubs game had to be Jon Lester’s performance, his first truly ace-worthy start of the young season. There had been more than a little bit of fear rippling through some of the folks out there, but Lester proved it was all for naught.
Despite the fact that it came against a pretty bad team, it felt really good to see the big lefty dealing. As I pointed out the other day, this was the perfect setup for Lester to get back to his old self. Thanks for proving me right, Jon.
Of course, the game was also notable because the lone run was provided by a super-prospects home run. And for the fact that that prospect was not Kris Bryant. You can see the full video of Addison Russell’s first homer elsewhere, but the slo-mo on the GIF below is a thing of beauty. If only it had sound…
FIRST. Many more to come for @Addison_Russell. pic.twitter.com/UGeGTGG6kN

Keep it up, young fella. But understand that this may be the only time all season you hold a longball lead over Bryant, who’s going to hit 6 in 4 AB’s Saturday. Don’t ask me how, just understand that he’ll find a way.
